Location and Facility: Columbia College of Nursing Residence Hall is located in a residential neighborhood near Lake Michigan and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the city's east side. The Residence Hall is part of the Columbia Hospital campus. It is served by most of the city's major bus routes.
An eclectic assortment of shops, restaurants, and recreational facilities are nearby. From the Columbia College of Nursing campus, students are close to many of Milwaukee's finest attractions. The College is less than one mile from the beaches of Lake Michigan, and close to the Milwaukee Art Museum. Parks, bike trails, a golf course and tennis courts are a short walk from campus. The internationally-known Maier Festival Park, home of the famous Summerfest and ethnic festivals such as Festa Italiana and Irishfest, is a few short miles away. Columbia Residence Hall is a coed facility comprised of rooms on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of the College. Courtesy Hours are in effect at all times.
Eligibility for Residence: To be eligible for residence in Columbia College Residence Hall, you must be enrolled either full- or part-time in the Columbia - Mount Mary Intercollegiate Nursing Program or CSM Health Sciences Programs, or enrolled full-time (12 or more credits) or part-time (3 or more credits) in any UW-Milwaukee academic program.. Full- or part-time undergraduate students from approved, affiliated institutions may also be eligible for residence for a maximum of two years. You may be asked at anytime to provide proof of your enrollment status at your institution for housing purposes.

Deadlines for Applying: Housing applications are taken on a rolling basis and space is assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Columbia College of Nursing students are given priority status. To guarantee housing, get your application in early. We will begin accepting housing applications for the 2009 – 2010 academic year at 8:00 am on Monday, January 26th , 2009 .
Responsibilities and Privileges of Residency: As you consider living in Columbia Residence Hall, please read the following summary of the rules and regulations governing your stay at the College. You will receive a copy of the CCON Residence Hall Contract Book when you receive your contract. The Contract Book will include the following regulations and a more detailed description of each.
College housing, by its communal nature, requires residents to respect differing lifestyles and at the same time imposes certain restrictions on individual freedom. Residents are required to:
- Take responsibility for their own property to make sure their doors are closed and securely locked.
- Respect the property of Columbia Residence Hall and of other residents.
- Respect the dignity of each individual regardless of age, culture, faith, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, language, disability, or class.
- Comply with the rules and regulations established by the College. Failure to do so may result in the termination of housing privileges.
- Leave common area spaces used by residents, such as the Campus Center, kitchen, fitness room, laundry room, lounges, hallways, stairwells, and elevator, in a clean, safe, and undamaged condition at all times.

Telephone Service: It is the responsibility of the resident to bring a phone and obtain phone service from the local telephone company, AT&T Residential . You will need to know your room number before you call AT&T. There are free floor phones to receive incoming calls and a pay phone is located in the Campus Center .
Internet Service: Residents can arrange in-room Internet service. Click here for more information on Internet Service.
Because there is only one phone line in each room, only one roommate can sign up for DSL service. However, both roommates can share the DSL service (both the service and the cost) by setting up a network in the room. Click here to learn more about what you need to set up a mini network.
Helene Fuld Computer Lab: A computer lab is located on the first floor of the Residence Hall. The computer lab features 13 networked IBM computers, 2 laser printers, 2 color printers, and a scanner. All computers have Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Office XP, and nursing software installed. The computer lab is available to all Columbia residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, only Ascension affiliated residents have access to the Internet. |

Campus Center: The Campus Center is located in the basement. It is available to all students and has a large screen TV with a VCR/DVD player, pool table, dart board, piano, fitness room, and a kitchenette with microwave ovens and a refrigerator.

Rooms: The rooms are 17' x 12' for a Double, and 12' x 10' for a single. Each room has a private full bathroom, 2 “extra long twin“ bunkable beds, 2 built-in closets with drawers, 2 desks with chairs, 2 end-tables, 2 lamps, and 2 garbage cans.

Microfridges: CCON has rented MicroFridges for each residence hall rooms. The one piece unit includes a refrigerator, freezer, and microwave unit. Therefore, there is no need for residents to bring these items to campus; please leave them at home.
Furnishings: Residents are encouraged to bring items to personalize their rooms. Students often bring carpeting, televisions, posters, small couches, additional light sources, and linens. All rooms have a private bathroom and are furnished with an extra long twin bed, night-stand, desk, chair, lamp, and a built-in dresser-closet unit for each student.
Prohibited Items:
Halogen lamps, candles / incense / open flame items, air conditioners, space heaters, subwoofers, alcohol-related room decorations, and open element heating / cooking units are some of the items not permitted in the residence hall. Refer to the Residence Hall Contract Book for a complete list.
Security: Each resident will be issued a Photo ID card and should carry it on them at all times. This will identify that the student is a resident of Columbia Resident Hall. In addition, the Photo ID will be needed to gain access to the Resident Hall (the building is locked after 5:00 pm on weekdays and around-the-clock on weekends), the kitchen, the exercise room, the computer lab, and the elevator. Each floor is locked for added security. Security and Emergency Response is handled by the Columbia Hospital Security team.
Staff: A Resident Assistant (RA) is housed on each floor of the Resident Hall. The RA's are trained to serve as advisors, programmers, educators, mentors, and the administrator for his/her floor. During business hours, the Office of Residence Life is available to assist students in any possible way. The Residence Life Coordinator is available 24-7 and provides guidance for the Resident Assistant staff and emergency management as needed.
Kitchen: A full-service kitchen is located on the first floor and is available to students between the hours of 8:00 am to 12:00 am . The kitchen includes a microwave, two refrigerators, and a commercial oven/stove. A limited supply of cookware and utensils can be checked out from the front desk.
Laundry: Laundry Machines are located in the basement-level Campus Center and are operated by a prepaid $65 laundry card which can be purchased through the Office of Resident Life. A $15 refund will be issued when the used card is returned. Laundry costs $1 per load.

Room Deposit: Room Deposit Fees are due at the time you have been offered a space and have returned your signed Housing Contract, not at the time you submit your housing application. The Room Deposit includes:
Refundable Security Deposit $1,000
Administrative & Program Fee $500
Total: $1,500
*In the event of a premature contract cancellation, your entire Room Deposit will be non-refundable.

Payments : We accept personal checks, money orders, cash, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Checks should be made payable to Columbia College of Nursing. There is a $50 fee for late payments, returned checks, and charge card declines. You will receive an invoice from the Business Office prior to the start of your contract period. Full semester payment is required prior to move-in. CCON students may apply for a payment plan. There is a $50 per semester fee for this payment action.

Meal Plan |

Columbia Residence Hall has an optional dollar value meal plan. Students purchase meals at the Columbia Hospital cafeteria or in the hospital's Terrace Room Restaurant. The value of the food item(s) purchased is deductible from the meal plan balance. The advantage of this program is that the resident only pays for what they eat. Students will be informed by the Business Office if a shortage is projected based on their food purchases. Additional increases to a plan may be made in $100 increments (at any time during the contract period) with an additional $50 fee. Your participation in our meal plan program is optional and can be initated, modified or cancelled at any time. However, once payment has been made, meal plan funds are non-refundable.

The 2009-2010 Housing Application process will begin on Monday, January 26 th , 2009 . You can submit your application either online by using our online application form (preferred method), or you can download Adobe Acrobat , print and fill out the application, and mail it directly to the CCON Housing Office.
